Olympic Weightlifting
The sport of Olympic Weightlifting will open so many doors in your quest for improved fitness and sports performance. The "competition" lifts in the sport of Olympic Weightlifting are the clean & jerk and the snatch. (This is not to be confused with power lifting, which consists of the dead lift, squat, and bench press.) Olympic weightlifters also make use of "skill transfer" and "assistive" lifts to compliment their training. These lifts include the push press, drop snatch, front squat, over-head squat, back squat, and pulls among others.
The Olympic lifts will improve your explosiveness. Explosiveness is a function of speed and strength. Not only will your speed and strength improve but so will your flexibility, stability, and balance. Olympic Weightlifting can be a part of any type of fitness or sports training program. It can be done safely by a variety of people, both male and female, ranging in age from pre-teen to senior citizen. All of the Olympic lifts can be modified to fit your fitness, sport, or medical profile.
We welcome all newcomers! Our U.S.A.W. and N.S.C.A. certified personal trainers supervise all OPEN LIFT sessions. Our trainers can assist you with designing and implementing a workout. They can assess your situation and monitor your progression. Each time you report to an open lift session you will check in at the door.
During the Fall and Spring semesters, the PowerGym is available for OPEN LIFTING workout sessions during the following hours: Mondays & Wednesdays: 3:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. and 7:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. Tuesdays & Thursdays: 3:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. and 6:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. Fridays: 3:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M.
You may drop in and leave at anytime during these time blocks. However, we ask that you limit your total workout duration to 1.5 hours and let others "work-in" on the platforms when the room is near or at capacity. Both the open lift sessions and the Olympic weightlifting workshops are FREE!
