Intercampus Champs - Fall 07

On a cold Wednesday evening in late January, the best Men’s and Coed Intramural outdoor soccer teams faced off in the Second Annual Intercampus Championships held at the Athletics Bubble on Busch campus.

The 9pm contest featured a rematch of last year’s Men’s final between Shaolin Soccer representing Busch, who at the time represented College Avenue’s best, and Cook/Douglass’ perennial contender and two-time campus champions Muff Divers. In a closely played match, Shaolin, spurred by a go ahead goal by captain Peter Lee, won in a nail biting 1-0 shutout to claim their second trophy. Shaolin Soccer is pictured to the right.
The 10pm contest was a title defense for the heavily favored Busch team Shaolin Soccer Coed and a team that was one year removed from winning Cook/Douglass’ Coed B title and then this years Coed A title, BC Click. Down early 3-1 by superior offense by Shaolin, BC Click made the improbable happen late in the second half with just over 5 minutes to play by scoring 3 goals within 2 minutes to come out on top for their first Intercampus Championship in a 4-3 come from behind thriller.  BC Click is pictured to the left.

The Goodfellas hailing from the Cook/Douglass campus went head to head in a no holds barred championship against the infamous Purple Cameltoes from the Busch Campus. In the first half of what seemed to be a one-sided match, the Goodfellas gave the Purple Cameltoes a run for their money. With an impressive hook and ladder towards the end of the first half, the Goodfellas took the lead. In the second half, the teams battled and it looked like Goodfellas would score a huge upset. With just under two minutes remaining, the Purple Cameltoes rose to the challenge and put the nail in the coffin. The win sealed their back to back Intercampus Championship wins. When presented with the Applebee’s gift card and asked what he will do next, the team captain Amin Gillespie replied, “I’m going to Disney World!”
